DURHAM, N.C. -- The Czech Republic National Team defeated Duke 2-1 in a fall exhibition game Friday evening at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Two fourth-inning runs proved to be the difference in a pitchers' duel between the two squads. Czech Republic starter Boris Bakaj coverd six complete, allowing one run with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Right-hander Ondrej Satoria tossed the final three frames, striking out five without walking a batter. After the Czech Republic staked the one-run advantage, Bokaj and Satoria combined to retire the final 15 Blue Devils batters they faced.

Duke led 1-0 after three, taking advantage of three infield singles from Kennie Taylor, Chase Cheek and Zack Kone to score the game's first run. The infield single was one of two hits for junior shortstop Kone on the evening.

The Czech Republic generated all the offense it needed in the fourth, tallying two runs off sophomore Coleman Williams via a leadoff walk, three singles and an RBI groundout.

The Duke pitching staff allowed just two hits the remainder of the contest. Graduate students Sam Granoff and Ethan DeCaster combined to strike out five batters without issuing a walk in four scoreless innings.

The Blue Devils close out the fall season with their annual Fall World Series, beginning at 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the DBAP. Fall World Series games are open to the public and free of charge. Fans unable to attend can tune into a live audio broadcast via GoDuke.com featuring the voice of the Blue Devils Chris Edwards.
