DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are excited to announce the signing of left-handed pitcher Kyle Salley to a National Letter of Intent. A product of Homewood-Flossmoor High School, Salley joins the Blue Devils’ 2018 recruiting class set to arrive in Durham this coming fall.

“Don’t let Kyle’s slight frame fool you, he’s got a power arm,” said Pollard. “He’s been up to 91 mph and his fastball spin rates are up over 2500 rpm. Kyle produces a lot of swings and misses. He has a very projectable, very advanced delivery and he throws a ton of strikes.”

A 2017 Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention selection, Salley struck out 46 batters in 39.1 innings as a junior this past season. He also played in the outfield for the Vikings, batting .324 with three home runs and 20 RBI.

Perfect Game lists Salley as the No. 387 overall prospect and No. 50 left-handed pitcher in the 2018 recruiting class. In addition, the publication ranks Salley as the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 4 left-hander in the state of Illinois.

A total of 12 players comprise the Blue Devils’ 2018 recruiting class with all 12 ranked among Perfect Game’s top 500 prospects in the class.

Duke opens the 2018 campaign Feb. 16-18 at Vanderbilt.
