DURHAM, N.C. – After facing non-conference opponents the first four weeks of the season, the Duke Blue Devils (12-6, 0-0 ACC) will finally turn their attention to ACC play, as they head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels (8-13, 0-0 ACC) for their first conference action in program history.

Due to inclement weather, the weekend schedule was rearranged to feature a Saturday doubleheader to go along with the previously scheduled Friday night series opener at Anderson Stadium. Duke and UNC will begin the series at 6 p.m. ET Friday night before facing off at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday. All three contests will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.

Duke will look to improve upon its three-game winning streak after its successful weekend at home. Leading the way is freshman pitcher Amelia Wiercioch, who tops the team with a 1.11 ERA and also blasted the first grand slam in Duke softball history March 3 versus Lehigh. Haley Wymbs is the clubhouse leader with a .421 clip, while Jameson Kavel tops the Blue Devils with 21 hits, 14 runs scored, five doubles and three triples. She is also a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases, averaging 0.61 per game, good for second in the ACC and 41st nationally.

ACC Play On Deck...
With a 3-1 showing in the Duke Inaugural Tournament, the Blue Devils closed out their first non-conference tournament schedule in program history with a 12-6 record. Now coming up? ACC play. Duke will open conference action for the first time in program history at North Carolina. This will also be the first time Duke will play non-tournament contests.

Wiercioch Blasts Duke’s First Grand Slam...
To say Amelia Wiercioch had a good weekend at the Duke Inaugural Tournament is a bit of an understatement. Wiercioch picked up a win and a save while posting an impressive 0.54 ERA in four games, while picking up a team-high six RBI. However, the biggest highlight came against Lehigh (March 3), as she blasted a shot to centerfield with the bases juiced for the program’s first grand slam in history. Kavel Leading (Off) The Way...

Jameson Kavel has been the catalyst for the Blue Devil offense throughout the first four weekends, leading the team in seven different offensive categories and helping Duke to a 10-5 record when leading off the lineup. Kavel, who also tops the team with six multi-hit games, is a team-high 12-for-22 (.545) when leading off an inning. In her 15 contests as the Blue Devils’ leadoff hitter, she is 18-for-52 (.346) with 12 runs, nine RBI, four doubles, three triples and a home run, which she earned in Duke’s 5-0 win against Morgan State (Feb. 23).

Early Inning Success...
Duke has found a majority of its offensive firepower in the early innings of its first 18 contests. The Blue Devils have 79 total runs scored after their first four weekends of action, with 38 of those coming in the first three frames. Duke has scored 18 in the first, the most of any frame. Production has ramped up in the middle innings recently, with 36 of Duke’s runs coming from the fourth to the sixth innings.

Double The Fun...
Through its first 18 games, Duke has tallied 30 doubles. That total stands second in the conference. The Blue Devils’ 1.67 doubles per game average is tops in the ACC and up five spots to 17th nationally. Jameson Kavel and Raine Wilson lead the Blue Devils with five doubles each. A total of 13 Blue Devils have recorded a double through the program’s first three weekends.

Pitching Success...
Perhaps the strongest point of Duke’s game after its first four weekends in competition is its pitching unit. With a 1.67 ERA and a .227 opponent batting average, the Blue Devils’ staff stands second overall in the ACC in team pitching and enters the weekend ranked 30th nationally.

Individually, the Blue Devils are led by freshman Katherine Huey, who has a team-high seven wins. Huey busted onto the scene in her first weekend in the collegiate game, tallying the program’s first win (Feb. 8 at FAU-1) and first complete game shutout (Feb. 9 vs. Michigan State) before earning espnW’s National Player of the Week honors after the second weekend of play.

Amelia Wiercioch tops the team with a 1.11 ERA, which is tied for fourth in the ACC. Peyton St. George is the team’s strikeouts leader with 33 and her 8.7 strikeouts per seven innings is good for fourth in the ACC and 41st nationally.

Kavel A Terror On The Base Paths...
She’s led off the lineup in 15 games, leads Duke with 62 at-bats and 21 hits and sports a .565 slugging percentage with team highs in doubles (5) and triples (3). But perhaps the best part of Jameson Kavel’s game so far? Her speed.

Through four weekends, Kavel has been a terror for opposing pitchers and catchers, going a perfect 11-for-11 in stolen bases. She currently averages 0.61 a game, good for second in the ACC and 41st nationally. After only picking up one in the opening weekend, Kavel recorded five during the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, including two games with multiple steals.

Making Sacrifices...
Sometimes to be great, you’ve got to make some sacrifices. And for Rachel Abboud and Jazmine Moreno, they’ve been doing just that. The duo has excelled on the sacrifice fly/sac bunt front, doing their part to help Duke score the 79 runs its put up so far this year. Overall, the Blue Devils have tallied 18 sacrifice hits and scored seven runs on sacrifice flies. Abboud leads the ACC and is second in the nation with four sacrifice flies, while Moreno’s 0.44 sac hits per game are tops in the ACC and fifth in the NCAA.

Huey Honored By espnW...
After a weekend that saw her go 2-0 in the circle, strike out 10 batters, record the program’s first home run and tally eight RBI, freshman Katherine Huey caught the eye of the national media. For her efforts, she was named espnW’s National Player of the Week Feb. 21, making her the first player in program history to receive a weekly honor of any kind.

On Deck…
Following the Blue Devils opening weekend of ACC play, they will hit the road for their first set of midweek action in their inaugural campaign. Duke will head to Charlotte for a Tuesday, March 13 afternoon battle at 3:30 p.m. ET, followed by a Wednesday, March 14 doubleheader at Charleston, starting at 5 p.m.
