DURHAM, N.C. – The Chicago White Sox drafted Duke signee Kyle Salley in the 40th round (No. 1,188 overall) in the Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft Wednesday.
A left-handed pitcher from Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Ill., Salley has been up to 91 mph with fastball spin rates over 2500 rpm.
He earned 2018 Rawlings-Perfect Game Honorable Mention All-America honors his senior season after collecting 2017 Perfect Game Underclass Honorable Mention accolades as a junior. In 2017, Salley struck out 46 batters in 39.1 innings and also played the outfield for the Vikings, batting .324 with three home runs and 20 RBI.
Perfect Game lists Salley as the No. 455 overall prospect and No. 57 left-handed pitcher in the 2018 recruiting class. In addition, the publication lists him as the No. 14 overall prospect and No. 4 LHP in the state of Illinois.
