Blue Claims Fall World Series with Game 2 Win

DURHAM, N.C. – Graduate student Kyle Gallagher homered twice to lead Blue to a Fall-World-Series-clinching victory over Black Saturday at Jack Coombs Field. Blue followed its 4-1 win in the opener with a second-straight 4-1 decision.

Gallagher finished the day 2-for-3 with the two longballs, a walk and three RBI, while sophomore Chris Crabtree added a two-out RBI triple to aid the Blue cause.

On the mound, graduate student Ben Gross earned the win and junior Eli Herrick picked up the save. Those two combined to limit Black to one run on three hits with three walks over seven innings while accruing seven strikeouts.

For Black, freshman Matt Stinebiser was 1-for-3 with a double and junior Erikson Nichols was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The two teams conclude the instrasquad series at 2 p.m., Sunday, November 18 at Jack Coombs Field.
