DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Chris Pollard and the Duke baseball program are thrilled to announce the signing of outfielder Steve Mann to a National Letter of Intent. Currently a senior at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Mich., Mann will join the Blue Devils in the fall of 2017.

Heading into his final high school season, the two-sport athlete from Farmington Hill, Mich., boasts a distinctive combination of speed and power at the plate.

“Steve is a power-hitting outfielder,” said Pollard. “He’s participated in some of the most prominent showcase events in the country, and he matched up incredibly well against the top players across the nation. Steve is also a very good high school football player and we like the athleticism and versatility he brings to the table.”

Mann participated in the 2016 East Coast Professional Showcase, which provides a venue for the premier youth baseball players across the eastern United States to compete in a professional environment. In addition, Mann was selected to the 2016 Area Code games, the 17U Evoshield Classic and the 17U Perfect Game World Series. In 2015, he was named to the Perfect Game National Showcase Top Prospect Team.

Mann led Detroit Country Day, also the alma mater of Duke men's basketball great Shane Battier, to the 2016 Division 2 state quarterfinal game as the Yellow Jackets won district and regional titles along the way. During his high school career, Perfect Game tabbed Mann to the 2016 Underclass First Team and the 2015 Underclass High Honorable Mention squad.

Perfect Game rated Mann the No. 117 overall prospect and No. 26 outfielder in the 2017 recruiting class as well as the top outfielder and No. 2 overall prospect from the state of Michigan. Mann is also highly touted by Prep Baseball Report, which lists him as the No. 55 overall prospect and 10th-best outfielder.

On the gridiron, Mann has excelled as a quarterback and defensive back, serving as team captain while earning all-state distinction. Most recently, Mann helped Detroit Country Day to the 2016 Division 4 Regional Title.

Mann is part of Duke’s 10-member 2017 signing class. is set to release details on each of the Blue Devils’ 2017 recruiting class over the coming weeks.
