TORONTO – Former Blue Devil All-American and current Toronto Blue Jays starter Marcus Stroman earned his first America League Gold Glove Award as announced by Rawlings. Stroman earned the award over Boston’s Chris Sale and Tampa Bay’s Alex Cobb.

Stroman became the 10th Blue Jay to win a Gold Glove and the first since R.A. Dickey in 2013. He ranked second among AL pitchers with five defensive runs saved in 2017.

This past season, Stroman went 13-9 with a 3.09 ERA that ranked fourth in the AL. The right-hander also surpassed 200 innings for the second consecutive season and did not miss a start.

The Gold Glove Award represents overall fielding excellence. Managers and coaches vote on the award and are not permitted to select a player from their own team.

Stroman was Duke’s first MLB Draft first round pick after the Blue Jays selected him No. 22 overall in 2012. Stroman ranked fourth on Duke’s all-time strikeouts list with (290), while his 3.27 career ERA was the third-lowest in school history in the aluminum bat era (since 1974) and the seventh-lowest all-time. He had nine career double-digit strikeout games, two career complete games and added seven saves during his time in Durham. As a junior, Stroman led all NCAA pitchers in strikeouts with 136 and finished second in strikeouts per nine innings (12.49) during his final season at Duke.

After making his MLB debut in 2014, Stroman is 37-25 with a 3.61 career ERA over 562.2 innings. In addition to his Gold Glove Award, Stroman was also picked to grace the cover of Canada’s edition of MLB: The Show ’18, available on PlayStation 4.
