Duke Baseball Summer League Update: July 9

DURHAM, N.C. – Eighteen members of the 2018-19 Duke baseball roster are taking part in collegiate summer leagues spread across the United States. Below is an update on some of the Blue Devil standouts so far:

Chris Crabtree | INF | Holly Springs Salamanders (Coastal Plain League)
Crabtree earned himself a spot on the Coastal Plain League All-Star Team thanks to an impressive first half of the summer. The Blue Devil infielder is tied for the league-lead in home runs with nine long balls across the summer campaign. Across 21 games of action, Crabtree is batting .329 with 16 RBI and 14 runs scored. The Bahama, N.C., native has collected 58 total bases, which ranks seventh in the CPL.

Matt Mervis | RHP/INF | Cotuit Kettleers (Cape Cod)
Mervis has enjoyed a successful summer campaign thus far for the Cotuit Kettleers. Through 11 games, the left-handed slugger is batting .320, with two doubles, one home run, 10 RBI and five runs scored. A two-way player, Mervis has also made four appearances on the mound. The Potomac, Md., native owns a 3.00 ERA (3 ER/9.0 IP), and has earned one win. 

Rudy Maxwell | C | Kalamazoo Growlers (Northwoods)
Maxwell has been a force in the Northwoods League for the Kalamazoo Growlers. The Duke freshman leads the team in batting average, hitting at a .370 clip across 13 games of action. Maxwell has registered one double, eight RBI and nine runs scored. The Blue Devil backstop has collected at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games, including six multi-hit efforts across the span. 

Matt Stinebiser | C | La Crosse Loggers (Northwoods)
Stinebiser has excelled throughout the summer season for the La Crosse Loggers. The Blue Devil rookie ranks fourth on the squad in batting average with a mark of .306 across 14 games. Stinebiser has added four RBI, four walks and six runs scored to his totals across the campaign. 

Thomas Girard | RHP | Falmouth Commodores (Cape Cod)
Girard has continued his dominance in the summer campaign for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League. The Duke right-hander has made three scoreless appearances this season, earning saves in two of his three outings. Girard has collected five strikeouts across 3.0 innings of work and has yet to allow a hit.
