Duke Baseball Hosts No. 1 Florida State This Weekend

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team will host No. 1 Florida State this weekend for a three-game series at Jack Coombs Field. Friday’s game is scheduled for 7 p.m., Saturday’s game will be at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s series finale will start at noon. The Blue Devils enter the series 19-9 overall and 1-8 in the ACC while the top-ranked Seminoles are 27-1 and 6-0, respectively.

Last Four Games
Duke took one of three games against Georgia Tech last weekend before posting a win over Campbell on Tuesday. In game one against the Yellow Jackets on Friday, Georgia Tech scored a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to overcome a 2-1 deficit to defeat Duke, 3-2.

On Saturday, Duke senior Tony Bajoczky tossed seven innings of shutout ball and freshman Michael Seander worked a scoreless eighth and ninth as the Blue Devils defeated Georgia Tech, 3-0. Bajoczky held Georgia Tech to five hits in the game and struck out five batters without allowing a walk to improve to 4-2 on the season. Seander then limited the Yellow Jackets to one hit over the final two innings to pick up his sixth save of the year. Seander’s sixth save ties the fourth-best single-season output in Duke history.

On Sunday, Georgia Tech scored three runs in the first two innings and got a solid six-inning start out of lefty Ryan Turner on their way to a 5-1 win.

Trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the fifth of Tuesday’s game at Campbell, the Blue Devils scored three runs in the frame before exploding for a six-run sixth inning on their way to an 11-7 victory.

Bajoczky Named ACC Pitcher of the Week 
Senior Tony Bajoczky was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday. Bajoczky became the 11th Duke pitcher in school history to receive the weekly honor, joining teammate Michael Ness, who earned the award on March 5.

Bajoczky tossed seven innings of shutout ball on Saturday as Duke defeated Georgia Tech, 3-0. The Tallahassee, Fla., native held Georgia Tech to five hits in the game and struck out five batters without allowing a walk to improve to 4-2 on the season.

Scouting No. 1 Florida State
The top-ranked Seminoles enter the weekend 27-1 overall and 6-0 in the ACC. Florida State opened the conference season with a sweep of Wake Forest March 16-18. The Seminoles swept their second straight league series last weekend, taking all three games against Boston College in Tallahassee. Florida State also picked up a 6-0 win over North Florida on Tuesday.
 
Duke-Florida State Series History
Florida State holds a 61-16 overall record against Duke in series history. The Seminoles swept the season series last year in Tallahassee March 24-26.

A Look Ahead
Duke will travel to Davidson (15-12) next Tuesday for a 7 p.m. game before heading to Charlottesville, Va., to take on the fifth-ranked Cavaliers (24-5, 5-4 ACC) next weekend.
