DURHAM, N.C. – As the Duke Softball program continues their preparation for their inaugural season in 2018, we give you an inside look at the student-athletes that have cemented their legacy as part of the team's foundation moving forward.
For this weekly series, Blue Devil Network's own Rebecca Fiorentino will discuss the qualities and characteristics of each player with head coach Marissa Young, who, having served as an assistant coach at North Carolina, will be entering her first season as a head coach in the ACC.
In this week's episode, we highlight Tustin, Calif., native, Amelia Wiercioch.
As a junior, Wiercioch batted .348 with four home runs while compiling a 1.08 ERA on the mound. A three-time all-league pick, Wiercioch earned Rosary Academy's Most Valuable Defensive Player honor in 2016. She also played for the Courage travel organization and captured the PGF Platinum National title in 2014.
Young on Wiercioch: “Amelia is an explosive hitter who will provide support in the circle, and be a mainstay at first base when she is not pitching.”
