DURHAM, N.C. - With the fall season slated to start in a month, the Duke softball program's new home received its final touches this past week.
The Blue Devils' home venue, located on East Campus next to field hockey's Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium, recently wrapped up a construction project that spanned over the last two years. The attached photo gallery includes aerial shots of the venue, along with images from inside the facility. Interior images include the team locker room, press box and more.
Head coach Marissa Young and her program kicked off individual practices this week, with team training beginning in mid September. The Blue Devils will open up their fall slate with a Duke Softball Stadium grand opening on Saturday, Sept. 30, as Young and her squad host the NC State Wolfpack at 4 p.m. ET. Admission is free for all fans with a promotional schedule for the contest to be announced later in September.
“I know that most teams view the Fall as just the offseason but for our program the Fall means much more,” Young said. “September 30th isn’t just a practice game. It’s the first time in Duke Softball history that Team One takes the field to compete. The first game in our stadium, first time on the field in uniform in front of our fans means so much. It’s just the beginning, but one we are excited for this game and working hard to be a team that the Duke family will be proud of!”
“We cannot wait to get to Sept. 30 and we want a packed house as we take on the Wolfpack.”
Over the next month, fans will get an inside look at the Duke softball program with GoDuke.com feature stories, Blue Devil Network videos and more.
Duke’s 18-player roster is comprised of 12 freshmen (five redshirt), two grad students, two juniors and two sophomores (one redshirt).
