DURHAM, N.C. – After spearheading Duke’s best offensive weekend to date and leading the Blue Devils to a sweep of the Virginia Cavaliers to close out their first season of ACC play, sophomore Raine Wilson was named the Duke Student-Athlete of the Week Wednesday.
The Mechanicsville, Va., native turned in a 4-for-8 weekend at the plate, leading the team with four runs scored, three runs batted in, a double and a triple while totaling seven bases and team highs with an .875 slugging clip and .600 on-base percentage. The sweep of the Cavaliers was Duke’s second of the season and gave them three-straight conference series wins and four for the season.
Wilson’s production at the plate set the table for Duke’s best offensive weekend in the ACC this season, as the Blue Devils totaled 17 runs on 24 hits with 14 runs batted in. She did not strike out once, drew one walk and was hit by pitch once. The third baseman did not record an error on the field while tallying five assists and a pair of putouts.
After the weekend, Wilson upped her team-leading totals in multi-hit games to 18 and multi-RBI performances to eight and has hit safely in four-straight games, one shy of tying her career best. She continues to be one of the best in the ACC this season, as she stands top 10 in the conference games with 31 hits (T-1st), 20 runs batted in (3rd), a .676 slugging percentage (.5th) and a .482 OBP (7th). Overall, Wilson’s 13 doubles are second in the league while her 58 hits are tied for third.
Wilson and the Blue Devils will split time on the road and at home for the final weekend of the regular season. Duke will travel to Farmville, Va., for a doubleheader against Longwood on Saturday, May 5. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET, with game to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one. The regular season will close out at home on Sunday, May 6 against Campbell, first pitch slated for 1:30 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
