DURHAM, N.C. – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) has announced its watch list for the 2017-18 PING WGCA Division I Player of the Year with Duke senior Leona Maguire one of six selections. The award will be announced after medal play at the upcoming NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Okla.
Other golfers on the watch list include Maria Fassi (Arkansas), Lilia Vu (UCLA), Patty Tavatanakit (UCLA), Lauren Stephenson (Alabama) and Andrea Lee (Stanford).
A two-time PING WGCA Player of the Year, Maguire has registered three victories on the season, including the ACC Championship. She has totaled a 70.41 stroke average to go along with nine top 10 finishes and 10 rounds in the 60s on the year. Maguire, who hails from Cavan, Ireland, was a runner-up at the NCAA Madison Regional as she turned in an eight-under, 208, over the three days of action. She has collected 22 rounds of even or under par on the season and leads the Blue Devils with 111 birdies.
Duke will open the NCAA Championship Friday, May 18 beginning at 1:10 p.m. (ET) at Karsten Creek Golf Club.
