DURHAM, N.C. – After helping lead the Duke Blue Devils through an impressive inaugural campaign, softball assistant coach Lacey Waldrop will take the field Thursday as she opens her fourth season in National Pro Fastpitch with the Chicago Bandits.

The Bandits will open their 14th season as a franchise against the Cleveland Comets at 7:05 p.m. ET at Chicago Bandits Stadium. Chicago has captured six regular season titles and four Cowles Cup championships over its time as a franchise, with its most recent Cowles Cup title coming in 2016, Waldrop’s second year with the squad.

Waldrop, who was selected with the third overall pick in the 2015 NPF Draft by the Bandits, is coming off a 2017 campaign that saw her make 17 appearances, including a career-high 11 starts. In three seasons, Waldrop has recorded 11 victories, two saves and seven complete games in 162.2 innings pitched.

The Chester, Va., native helped lead the Blue Devils to 29 wins and four series victories in their first season, landing the No. 7 seed in the ACC Tournament. Three Blue Devils earned All-ACC honors, with Raine Wilson picking up First Team laurels and Rachel Abboud and Peyton St. George reeling in Freshman Team accolades. With the 2014 USA Softball National Player of the Year helping guide the way, the Blue Devil pitching staff finished second in the ACC and in the top 25 nationally with a 2.05 ERA.
