TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – A seven-run third inning propelled the No. 6 Florida State Seminoles (43-8, 14-5 ACC) to an 8-0 victory in five innings against the Duke Blue Devils (25-28, 11-11 ACC) in Friday’s series opener at JoAnne Graf Stadium.

The Seminoles used a run in the first and seven more two innings later, along with holding the Blue Devils to three hits, to secure the victory.

Two hits and a walk brought home the game’s first run in the opening frame. The Seminoles would tally five more hits in the third, highlighted by a pair of two-run homers, to break the lead open to 8-0. Duke would manage one more hit in the final two frames, but could not get anything going offensively, leading the Florida State’s win.

Rachel Abboud, Jameson Kavel and Jazmine Moreno each tallied a hit on the day for the Blue Devil offense. Brianna Butler (9-4) earned the start, going 2.2 innings with striking out one. Shelby Walters and Amelia Wiercioch combined to toss the final 1.1 frames in the game.

Duke and No. 6 Florida State return for game two of the weekend on Saturday. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through or the ESPN app.
