Charlotte enters the midweek looking to snap a five-game losing streak. The 49ers are led at the plate by Haley Pace, who tops the team with a .359 average, while Bailey Rhoney is not far behind with a .309 clip. Haley Wiseman tops the Charlotte staff with eight wins and a 3.00 ERA in 24 appearances, all coming as starts.

The Phoenix have lost three of their last five, but did pick up a series win against UNCW last weekend on the road. Kara Shutt (.435) and Hannah Olson (.393) top the team at the plate, while five different players have tallied at least 14 RBI this year. The Elon pitching staff has seen production across the board, led by a 2.59 ERA from Kiandra Mitchum.

Duke will hit the road for its sixth weekend of ACC play, heading to South Bend, Ind., to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The series will open Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET and game two following shortly after the conclusion of the first contest. Scouting The 49ers & The Phoenix...

Late Leads = Major Key...
One of the biggest deciding factors in a Duke victory has been where it stands on the scoreboard after the fifth and sixth innings. The Blue Devils are 14-2 when holding the lead after five innings of play and are a perfect 16-0 when leading after six. On the flip side, Duke is 1-15 when entering the sixth inning trailing and 0-13 when going into the seventh down.

More Runs The Merrier...
A majority of the Blue Devils’ success in 2018 has been factored on number of runs scored and how many runs their pitching staff allows. When Duke scores three or more runs in a contest, they are 16-9 as opposed to a 4-11 record when going below that mark. Its opponents have found its success in doing the same, as Duke is 7-19 when allowing three or more runs, but going 13-1 when holding its foes to two or less.

New Program? No Problem...
Logic would state that a new athletics program will need time to build and grow before the winning comes. Well, that may be the case for most, but don’t tell that to Marissa Young and her squad...

The Blue Devils are 20-20 so far this year, marking one of the best first years by an ACC softball program. Of the 12 current softball schools in the conference, Duke’s 20 first-year wins rank sixth. Florida State holds the ACC record for most win in an inaugural season with 46 in 1978.

Making It Raine...
Ever since blasting a pair of home runs in the second game of the series at North Carolina, sophomore Raine Wilson has been on a tear at the plate. She has hit safely in 20 of her last 25 contests and is 31-for-75 (.413) in that stretch with 18 RBI, 14 runs, eight doubles, four home runs and a triple, along with a .707 slugging clip and .482 OBP.

Wilson is top 10 in the ACC on the year in batting average, slugging percentage and OBP, with her .474 OBP leading the way in a tie for second.

Spreading The Scoring Love...
After finding a majority of its offensive firepower in the early innings to start the season, Duke has now spread out its run scoring evenly across the board. The Blue Devils have 143 total runs scored so far this season, with 62 (43%) of those coming in the first three frames, while 64 (45%) have come from the fourth to the sixth innings. Duke’s 26 first and fourth inning runs are the most of any frame so far this season.

Double The Fun...
Duke has tallied 58 doubles so far this season, which is tied for second in the ACC. The Blue Devils’ 1.45 doubles per game average is third in the ACC and 56th nationally. Raine Wilson lead the Blue Devils with 11 doubles each, a total that stands tied for second amongst conference players. A total of 13 Blue Devils have recorded a double so far this season, with 10 having tallied multiple.

Pitching Success...
Perhaps the strongest point of Duke’s game through its first year of competition is its pitching unit. With a 2.21 ERA, the Blue Devils’ staff stands third overall in the ACC in team pitching and enters the week ranked 37th in the nation. The staff also sports a 220 strikeout-to-walk ratio, up to fourth in the ACC and 70th nationally.

Amelia Wiercioch tops the team with a 1.91 ERA, placing her sixth in the league and 95th nationally. Peyton St. George is leads the team in K’s with 71 and is third in the conference with just 21 earned runs allowed.

Katherine Huey paces the team in the win column with seven victories. Huey busted onto the scene in her first weekend in the collegiate game, tallying the program’s first win (Feb. 8 at FAU-1) and first complete game shutout (Feb. 9 vs. Michigan State) before earning espnW’s National Player of the Week honors after the second weekend of play.

On Deck…
Duke will hit the road for its sixth weekend of ACC play, heading to South Bend, Ind., to take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The series will open Saturday, April 14 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET and game two following shortly after the conclusion of the first contest. The series finale will be a noon first pitch Sunday, April 15. All three contests will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through WatchESPN.com or the ESPN app.
