DURHAM, N.C. – A nine-game road trip for the Duke Blue Devils (21-21, 6-9 ACC) begins this weekend in South Bend, Ind., as they take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (27-13, 10-4 ACC) in the sixth ACC series of their inaugural season.

Due to expected inclement weather, the series schedule has been shifted to begin Friday with the original Saturday doubleheader being moved to an earlier start. First pitch in the Friday, April 13 series opener is set for 4 p.m. ET at Melissa Cook Stadium. The Saturday doubleheader has been pushed up an hour, with game two starting at noon and the series finale following approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest. All three games will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra, which fans can access through WatchESPN.com and the ESPN app.

Duke is coming off a 1-0 victory against the Elon Phoenix Wednesday at home and will look to ride that momentum to its first ACC road series victory in program history.

Leading the way offensively for Duke has been Raine Wilson, who tops the team with a .432 clip, 19 hits, 12 RBI, three homers and a trio of doubles in ACC play. Wilson has hit safely in 21 of her last 27 games, going 32-for-82 (.390) in that stretch with 19 runs driven in, eight doubles, four homers and a triple. The Blue Devil pitching staff has been paced in conference play by the arm of Peyton St. George, who is a perfect 4-0 in 32.0 innings pitched and has a 1.53 ERA that is seventh-best in the league. Her .183 opposing batting average in conference play stands fourth and she is one of three pitchers to have four wins and record a save in conference play.

Notre Dame enters the weekend having won six of its last seven contests, including series wins against Virginia Tech and Syracuse. Ali Wester is the leader at the plate for the Irish, as she sports a .420 clip, while Cait Brooks tops the team with 27 RBI. Alexis Holloway leads the ND pitching staff with a 2.01 ERA and a 16-9 record as well as a team-high 134 strikeouts, while Katie Beriont brings in a 2.19 ERA and 11-4 record in the circle.

When the weekend in South Bend concludes, the Blue Devils will turn their attention back to The Triangle, as they travel to Raleigh to take on NC State on Wednesday, April 18. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET and will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra.

Scouting The Fighting Irish...

Dry & Wiercioch Power Duke To Victory...
The first-career home run for Kortney Dry and a career-high eight strikeouts for Amelia Wiercioch led Duke to a 1-0 win against Elon Wednesday. It marked the first win against an in-state foe for Duke in program history.

Late Leads = Major Key...
One of the biggest deciding factors in a Duke victory has been where it stands on the scoreboard after the fifth and sixth innings. The Blue Devils are 15-3 when holding the lead after five innings of play and are a perfect 17-0 when leading after six. On the flip side, Duke is 1-15 when entering the sixth inning trailing and 0-13 when going into the seventh down.

St. George Rolling Through ACC Play...
Freshman Peyton St. George has been nearly unstoppable in ACC play so far this year. The Mechanicsville, Va., native is a perfect 4-0 in 32.0 innings pitched and has a 1.53 ERA that is seventh-best in the league. Her .183 opposing batting average in conference play stands fourth and she is one of three pitchers to have four wins and record a save in conference play.

More Runs The Merrier...
A majority of the Blue Devils’ success in 2018 has been factored on number of runs scored and how many runs their pitching staff allows. When Duke scores three or more runs in a contest, they are 16-9 as opposed to a 5-12 record when going below that mark. Its opponents have found its success in doing the same, as Duke is 7-20 when allowing three or more runs, but going 14-1 when holding its foes to two or less.

New Program? No Problem...
Logic would state that a new athletics program will need time to build and grow before the winning comes. Well, that may be the case for most, but don’t tell that to Marissa Young and her squad... The Blue Devils are 21-21 so far this year, marking one of the best first years by an ACC softball program. Of the 12 current softball schools in the conference, Duke’s 21 first-year wins rank sixth. Florida State holds the ACC record for most win in an inaugural season with 46 in 1978.

Making It Raine...
Ever since blasting a pair of home runs in the second game of the series at North Carolina, sophomore Raine Wilson has been on a tear at the plate. She has hit safely in 21 of her last 27 contests and is 32-for-82 (.390) in that stretch with 19 RBI, 14 runs, eight doubles, four home runs and a triple, along with a .659 slugging clip and .457 OBP.

The sophomore has been especially impressive in ACC play, as her .432 clip is fifth in the league, while her 19 hits are tied for second and 12 RBI are tied for sixth.

Spreading The Scoring Love...
After finding a majority of its offensive firepower in the early innings to start the season, Duke has now spread out its run scoring evenly across the board. The Blue Devils have 146 total runs scored so far this season, with 65 (45%) of those coming in the first three frames, while 64 (44%) have come from the fourth to the sixth innings. Duke’s 27 first inning runs are the most of any frame so far this season.

Double The Fun...
Duke has tallied 58 doubles so far this season, which is tied for second in the ACC. The Blue Devils’ 1.38 doubles per game average is third in the ACC and 68th nationally. Raine Wilson lead the Blue Devils with 11 doubles each, a total that stands tied for second amongst conference players. A total of 13 Blue Devils have recorded a double so far this season, with 10 having tallied multiple.

Pitching Success...
Perhaps the strongest point of Duke’s game through its first year of competition is its pitching unit. With a 2.14 ERA, the Blue Devils’ staff stands third overall in the ACC in team pitching and enters the week ranked 36th in the nation. The staff also sports a 2.27 strikeout-to-walk ratio, up to fourth in the ACC and 63rd nationally.

Amelia Wiercioch tops the team with a 1.82 ERA, placing her sixth in the ACC and 87th nationally. She leads the team in strikeouts with 74, while Peyton St. George is third in the ACC with just 21 earned runs allowed.

Making Sacrifices...
Sometimes to be great, you’ve got to make some sacrifices. And for Rachel Abboud and Jazmine Moreno, they’ve been doing just that, excelling on the sacrifice fly/sac bunt front. Overall, the Blue Devils have tallied 39 sacrifice hits and scored eight runs on sacrifice flies. Abboud is tied for first in the ACC and is 11th nationally with four sac flies, while Moreno’s 0.26 sac hits per game are second in the ACC and 21st in the NCAA. Moreno’s 11 sac bunts are also tops in the conference.

On Deck…
When the weekend in South Bend concludes, the Blue Devils will turn their attention back to The Triangle, as they travel to Raleigh to take on NC State on Wednesday, April 18. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET and will be live streamed on ACC Network Extra.
