Catriona Barry

Midfield l Napa, Calif. l St. Ignatius College Preparatory

Prior to Duke: Barry was one of three Blue Devils in the class to take part in this summer’s Under Armour All-America Game. She heads to Durham as a four-time All-America selection and a three-time first team all-league pick. Barry was named her league’s Midfielder of the Year as a senior after totaling 53 goals, 26 assists and 72 draw controls.

What is your best lacrosse memory?

CB: My favorite lacrosse memory is my senior game of this past high school season. Our opponent cancelled just days before our game, so as a last resort we asked our boys lacrosse team to suit up against us. The energy on the field was indescribable and our stands were packed with friends and family supporting both programs. It turned out to be one of the most memorable games I have ever played in.

When did you start playing lacrosse?

CB: I started lacrosse in the third grade after seeing my older brother play for a year. At that point there wasn't a girls program in my town so I joined the boys team for my age group.

Who has had the largest impact on your life?

CB: My parents are my biggest inspirations and role models. They pushed me to always go one step further and I'm certain that without their support, I would not be were I am today.

Why did you choose Duke?

CB: Ever since I was little Duke has been my dream school.

What are your goals for your collegiate career?

CB: To be a part of the first Duke women's lacrosse national championship team.

Quick Hitters:

Favorite athlete: Steph Curry. Go Dubs!

Hobbies: I love adventuring with friends to scenic views and places, attending concerts and festivals, working out, and relaxing under the sun

Favorite movie: The Shawshank Redemption
Favorite TV show: Game of Thrones and Friends
Favorite musician:
James Taylor

If you were to play another sport, what would it be? If I didn't play lacrosse I'd be a race car driver. I've always had a admiration for NASCAR driving and love the thrill of speed

Little known fact about yourself: Most people don't know that I'm a black belt in Taekwondo

Best advice you’ve received: When I was little my dad would say, "To thine own self be true." Back then I wasn't quite sure what it exactly meant or how I could use those few words to guide my decisions in life, but by now I've learned that authenticity is the key to true happiness.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I hope to be working for a passion, doing something I absolutely love that benefits those around me

To be a part of the Duke women’s lacrosse program is … to stand alongside hardworking teammates and friends who have each other's back, win or lose.
