DURHAM, N.C.—Duke University men’s lacrosse sophomore JT Giles-Harris will step onto the international lacrosse stage this summer as a member of the Puerto Rico Men’s National Team at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in June. Giles-Harris is among 20 current collegiate players selected to the team.

Puerto Rico was awarded membership into the FIL just over a year ago and has worked tirelessly in identifying qualified players to represent its national team in Netanya, Israel. Following a series of player assessment camps, scrimmages and tournament play, the top 40 players were invited to compete at a two-day tryout this fall. The tryout, under the direction of the Men’s National Team coaching staff, led to the identification of a 30-man practice team (23-man roster and 7 alternates) who will stay together through the end of May.

With so many current collegiate players on the squad, the team will regroup after the NCAA lacrosse season for a couple of scrimmages, tournament play and a final team camp in late June prior to departing for Israel and the World Championships.

Giles-Harris, a starter on close defense as a freshman, was a crucial piece to Duke having one of its best defensive seasons in recent history. He collected 28 ground balls and nine caused turnovers in his 18 starting assignments. As a unit, the defense helped Duke to an 8.38 goals against average, ranking 12th nationally and Duke’s best since 2009.

The Nyack, N.Y., native will be among a host of current of former Blue Devils lacing up the cleats for the FIL World Championship this summer. The Duke trio of Ned Crotty, Matt Danowski and Jordan Wolf all were selected to play for the United States National Team, while Josh Offit will represent Israel.

The Blue Devils open the season as the preseason No. 1 squad according to Lacrosse Magazine and Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook. Duke will host Air Force in the season opener Feb. 3 at 1 p.m., at Koskinen Stadium.
