DURHAM, N.C.—The Duke duo of Joe Robertson and Brian Smyth swept the ACC Men’s Lacrosse weekly awards, garnering the respective Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week the league announced Monday afternoon. It is the first weekly award for both Robertson and Smyth.
Robertson, a sophomore attackman, led all scorers with four goals and first assists in Duke’s 17-9 season-opening win over Furman Saturday night. The Charlottesville, Va., native put Duke up 2-1 early in the first quarter and then added a pair to spur a 6-0 run over the course of the second and third quarters as the Blue Devils pulled away. His four goals marked his 12th career hat trick.
Duke’s faceoff leader, Smyth was outstanding at the X in winning 19-of-27 draws. He picked up ground balls on 14 of his 16 faceoff wins that resulted in a loose ball. The junior faceoff specialist’s 19 wins and 14 ground balls were the second most of his career.
The Blue Devils, ranked second nationally, continues the busy February this Wednesday, Feb. 6 against High Point in the home opener. Faceoff is set for 7 p.m.
