DURHAM, N.C.—Senior attackman Justin Guterding continues to haul in ACC weekly awards, garnering the ACC Offensive Player of the Week honor for the sixth time this season and third consecutive week after scoring nine points in Duke’s 13-9 win over Boston University.
Guterding joined elite company Sunday as he tallied five goals to join former Blue Devil Zack Greer as the only two players in NCAA Division I history to record 200 career goals. The senior captain pushed his career total to 202, leaving him five shy of passing Greer’s NCAA record of 206.
In addition to throwing in five goals, Guterding dished out four assists to finish with nine points – his ninth game with at least five points this season. The nine points also put him at 334 points for his career, 20 away from breaking Matt Danowski’s record of 353.
With Duke trailing 2-0 in the first quarter, Guterding took charge and scored the first goal for the Blue Devils and then assisted on the next two before scoring the fourth and sixth goals in the 8-0 run that put Duke up 8-2 at the half. He added a fourth goal and two more assists in the second half as Duke pulled away in the third.
Guterding now has 96 points on the season, four shy of becoming the second Blue Devil and 13th different player in NCAA history to reach 100.
Duke, 13-3 on the year, earned the No. 4 overall seed and will host Villanova in the NCAA Tournament First Round Saturday, May 12 at 2:15 p.m. The game will be televised live by ESPNU with Mike Corey and Don Zimmerman calling the action.
