DURHAM, N.C.-Duke earned the No. 2 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Men’s Lacrosse Championship and will host Richmond in the first round Sunday, May 12 at 5 p.m., on ESPNU. It is the 23rd berth for the Blue Devils and the 13th straight.
The Blue Devils enter the NCAA postseason with an 11-4 overall record after falling to Notre Dame in the ACC semifinals. Duke, 36-19 all-time in NCAA Tournament play, is 3-1 as the No. 2 seed and is 16-6 in first round action.

Sunday’s matchup with the Spiders will be the first between the two programs in NCAA postseason play and the second time the two teams will play this season. The Blue Devils bested Richmond 11-7 on the road during the regular season, using a 3-0 fourth quarter to pull away from the Spiders.
Sophomore Joe Robertson and senior Brad Smith lead the offense with 51 and 47 points overall, while Joey Manown has 21 goals and 32 points overall. The Blue Devils are averaging 12.13 goals per game and average 39.3 shots per contest.
Defensively, the Blue Devils rank fourth nationally in allowing only 9.07 goals per game. All-ACC selections Cade Van Raaphorst and JT Giles-Harris anchor the defensive group, ranking fifth and first in the ACC in caused turnovers. Duke has allowed double digit goals just four times this season.
Richmond earned its bid to the postseason after beating High Point 15-7 in the Southern Conference Championship. The Spiders are 10-6 overall are led offensively by Ryan Lanchbury with 70 points from 50 goals and 20 assists. Teddy Hatfield is right on his heels with 69 points.
The winner between Duke and Richmond will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinal versus either Notre Dame or Johns Hopkins Saturday, May 18 at Hofstra. Quarterfinal faceoffs will be at 12 and 2:30 p.m.
