DURHAM, N.C. – Sophomore Eoin Gronningsater was named ACC Male Fencer of the Week following his performance at the annual Duke Meet over the weekend, as announced Thursday by the conference office.
Gronningsater, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., posted an individual record of 6-0 in foil to lead the Blue Devils to an undefeated weekend. Gronningsater is now 39-7 during his sophomore campaign.
The ninth-ranked Duke men improved its record to 20-4 on the year and 1-0 in the ACC after picking up wins against North Carolina, Brandeis, Johns Hopkins and fifth-ranked Penn State. The win over Penn State was its second in as many weeks against a ranked opponent.
Select Blue Devils will return to competition Feb. 16-19 at the USFA Junior Olympics in Memphis, Tenn. Duke will then travel down Tobacco Road to Chapel Hill for the ACC Championships Feb. 24-25.
