Trio of Blue Devils Set for USFA Junior Olympics

DURHAM, N.C. – A trio of Blue Devils will travel to Memphis, Tenn., to represent the Duke fencing program Friday through Monday in the USFA Junior Olympics Championships. Freshmen Maria Papadopoulos and Gabrielle Zegers and redshirt freshman Ben Stone will hit the strips for the junior division at the Memphis Cook Convention Center.

Zegers will kick off competition Friday in women’s saber and is seeded No. 104 out of 199 participants before Papadopoulos competes in women’s epee Sunday with registration ending at 1 p.m. Papadopoulos enters the weekend seeded No. 55 with an overall record of 41-27 while Zegers owns a 14-3 ledger.

Stone wraps up Duke’s time in Memphis Monday morning in men’s saber as he is seeded 18th. Stone recently placed 27th at the 2018 Buchmann GMBH Junior World Cup in Phoenix, Ariz.
