DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s and women’s fencing programs will return to Bull City to host the annual Duke Meet this weekend, Feb. 10-11, in Card Gymnasium. Both days of competition will kick off at 9 a.m., with the final round at 2 p.m.
Saturday will feature the men’s competition, followed by the women on Sunday. The ninth-ranked Blue Devil men will face off against fourth-ranked Penn State, Brandeis, Johns Hopkins and ACC foe North Carolina. In addition, the women will take on seventh-ranked Temple in place of Johns Hopkins.
With three meets completed so far in the 2018 season, the Duke men hold a record of 16-4 (0-0 ACC) while the women own a 15-6 (0-0) ledger.
Freshman foilist Julia Gianneschi leads the way for the Blue Devils with 43 victories under her belt mid-way through her rookie season followed by sophomore Lindsay Sapienza with 39 as a saberist. Gianneschi and Sapienza are joined by epeeist Maria Papadopoulos with 38 wins.
Freshman Brycen Rushing headlines the Blue Devil men with an impressive 36-5 ledger and is coming off garnering ACC Male Fencer of the Week honors as he led the foil squad to a perfect 10-0 finish with a 22-2 individual ledger at the Northwestern Duals. Junior All-American epeeist Bryn Hammarberg also owns 36 victories followed by sophomore foilist Eoin Gronningsater and senior epeeist Dean Ischiropoulos with 33 and 32, respectively.

Accessible parking for guests with disabilities will be located in the Whitford Lot on Whitford Drive with no charge to park. General public parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Whitford Lot and the Grounds Lot off of Frank Bassett Drive.
