DURHAM, N.C. – With the 2018 collegiate fencing season in the books, a combined eight Duke student-athletes garnered spots on the All-ACC Academic Men’s and Women’s Fencing Teams, as announced by the conference office Friday. Duke trailed only Notre Dame’s nine selections for the most out of the four ACC fencing schools.

Both the Blue Devil men and women secured four spots each on the academic squads as seniors Pascual Di Tella and Haley Fisher, junior Rhiannon Harvey and Claudia Wrampelmeier, sophomores Eoin Gronningsater and Agoston Walter and freshmen Julia Gianneschi and Brycen Rushing rounded out the selections.

This marks the fourth-consecutive year Di Tella has picked up the academic accolade while this marks Fisher’s third time receiving the honor. Gronningsater, Harvey and Walter were named to the team for the second time while Gianneschi, Rushing and Wrampelmeier collected the award for the first time in their careers.

Di Tella, Gronningsater and Harvey were each named ACC Fencer of the Year for their respective weapons. The 2018 campaign marks the first year a Blue Devil garnered the accolade in foil for both the men and the women as Notre Dame swept the honor for three-consecutive years while Di Tella was named ACC Fencer of the Year for men’s saber for the second-straight time.

To be eligible for the All-ACC Academic Teams, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.0 grade point average for both the previous semester and as a cumulative average during their academic career as undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season also factored into the selection process.

The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
