EVANSTON, Ill. – The Duke fencing team traveled to the snowy and cold state of Illinois over the weekend for the Northwestern Duals and came away with much success as the eighth-ranked Duke women went 9-2 on the two-day meet while the 10th-ranked men went 9-1 overall.

The Blue Devil women faced off against five teams tabbed in the top 10 of the latest CollegeFencing360 Coaches Poll and were victorious over No. 5 Ohio State (18-9), No. 6 Princeton (17-10) and No. 10 Temple (17-10). Additionally, the women defeated Wayne State (24-3), Air Force (21-6), Cal Tech (27-0), Cleveland State (26-1), Stanford (19-8) and UCSD (17-10) and fell to only No. 1 Notre Dame (18-9) and No. 2 Northwestern (14-13) in a close dual.

On the men’s side, it was an ACC Championship rematch between the Blue Devils and top-ranked Notre Dame that highlighted the action. Having defeated the Irish in the conference championship to take the team’s first ACC title, the Blue Devils once again took down Notre Dame (14-13).

The men also defeated seventh-ranked Ohio State (19-8), Wayne State (24-3), Air Force (21-6), Cal Tech (23-4), Cleveland State (25-2), Detroit Mercy (24-3), Stanford (17-10) and UCSD (15-12) and fell to fifth-ranked Princeton by one touch (14-13).

Both the men’s foil and epee squad were 9-1 on the weekend and were highlighted by sophomore Brycen Rushing (19-4) and senior Bryn Hammarberg (20-4). Sophomore Ping Ping Kitsiriboon led the men’s saber contingent with a 23-4 ledger, followed by Ben Stone (18-9). Junior foilist Eoin Gronningsater logged the fewest losses on the team with an overall record of 17-3.

The women were led by junior Lindsay Sapienza (24-9), senior Rhiannon Harvey (22-7), sophomore Julia Gianneschi (21-8) and freshmen Ava Navarro (21-8) and Huda Aldadah (20-6) who all collected 20+ wins.

Full team and individual results can be found below.
