Duke Leads ACC with Seven on All-Academic Team

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke field hockey team featured a league-high seven selections to the 2016 All-ACC Academic Field Hockey Team, as announced Wednesday by Commissioner John Swofford. The Blue Devils led the conference in All-ACC Academic selections for the third consecutive year.

Junior Ashley Kristen earned the award for the third time in her career while seniors Robin Blazing and Heather Morris were recognized for the second consecutive season. Junior Alyssa Chillano, graduate student Aisling Naughton, freshman Margaux Paolino and redshirt freshman Sammi Steele were all first-time All-ACC Academic Team selections.

Chillano, Morris and Naughton were among the league’s 14 players to earn both All-ACC and All-ACC Academic laurels this season. In addition, Chillano and Morris were two of 10 student-athletes on the All-Academic Team to also receive All-America honors during the 2016 campaign.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

All seven of the conference’s field hockey programs were represented on the 2016 All-ACC Academic Team, with Duke’s seven selections pacing all schools. North Carolina featured the ACC Field Hockey Scholar-Athlete of the Year in senior Emma Bozek.

Under the direction of head coach Pam Bustin, the Blue Devil program has totaled 75 All-ACC Academic Team selections since the award’s inception in 2007, with at least six Duke field hockey student-athletes making the squad in each of the previous nine seasons.

The Blue Devils rounded out the 2016 campaign at No. 1 in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll and notched an overall record of 16-4. Duke also captured the ACC regular season title for the first time in program history.
