DURHAM, N.C. – Head coach Pam Bustin and the Duke field hockey team will welcome five freshmen student-athletes to the program ahead of the 2019 campaign. Midfielder/back Kelsey Reznick joins the Blue Devils from Drums, Pa.
A two-time All-American at Wyoming Seminary, Reznick rounded out her prep career by capturing a state title her senior year. She collected conference MVP and multiple player of the year accolades as a senior and totaled 48 goals and 60 assists over her four seasons.
Reznick has been a member of the U.S. U-19 and U-17 women’s national teams, completing a tour to Uruguay with the U-17 squad. She has also competed with the X-Calibur Field Hockey Club program, winning an indoor championship in 2017.
Over the weekend, Reznick was one of nine Blue Devils selected to take part in USA Field Hockey’s Young Women’s National Championship in Lancaster, Pa.
Reznick joins four other Blue Devils in the freshman class.
Why did you choose Duke?
Kelsey Reznick: Duke has an amazing program for female student athletes interested in studying medicine. The coaching staff drew me in with their experience and dedication to their players and I felt at home when stepping on campus.
What is your favorite field hockey memory?
KR: Winning the state championship senior year.
When did you start playing field hockey?
KR: I started playing field hockey in fourth grade when I participated in a clinic my local high school (Hazleton Area) was holding. I would play in my back yard with my dad until I joined a club team in sixth grade.
What are your goals for your collegiate career?
KR: Win a national championship and take advantage of all Duke has to offer on and off of the field.
Who has had the biggest impact on your life?
KR: My brother, Curtis, has had the biggest impact on my life because he has special needs and cannot do things other kids take advantage of. I work my hardest academically and athletically not only for myself, but for my brother as well.
To be a part of the Duke field hockey program is … to be a part of a family that supports its members and pushes each other to be the best version of themselves.
