DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke field hockey program featured five student-athletes on the 2017 Longstreth/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I All-South Region teams, as announced by the organization Monday.

Senior back Alyssa Chillano, sophomore midfielder Margaux Paolino, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Sammi Steele and junior forward Rose Tynan were selected for first team all-region recognition while senior back Sarah Furey was named to the All-South Region second team.

The Blue Devils’ five selections across the two teams marked the second most in the South Region, while Duke’s four first team honorees led all schools. Under the direction of head coach Pam Bustin and her staff, the Blue Devils have boasted five or more all-region picks in six of the last seven seasons.

An all-region selection for the third time in her career and a first team honoree for the second consecutive season, Chillano totaled eight goals, four assists and three defensive saves during her senior campaign. The vice captain from Phoenixville, Pa., notched two multiple-goal games and was part of a back line that ranked among the best in the country all season in goals against average (1.28). She garnered first team All-ACC recognition to go along with ACC All-Tournament Team laurels and was tabbed the MVP of the NFHCA Division I Senior Game.

Paolino joined Chillano in earning first team all-region recognition for the second straight year, in addition to receiving first team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament Team honors. The sophomore from Villanova, Pa., led Duke in assists (10) for the second time in as many seasons. She also recorded two goals and served as the team’s primary inserter on attack penalty corners. Paolino ranked among the ACC leaders in assists per game (0.48) and finished up the season with eight assists over the Blue Devils’ final nine contests of the fall.

Steele also collected All-South Region first team accolades for the second consecutive season following another successful campaign as Duke’s starting goalkeeper. The Eagleville, Pa., native wrapped up the season ranked eighth nationally in goals against average (1.28) and was second in the ACC in save percentage (.725). She was named the Longstreth/NFHCA Division I National Defensive Player of the Week in early September and twice earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week recognition, in addition to garnering a spot on the All-ACC second team.

Tynan was selected for all-region honors after providing a spark on Duke's attacking line as a junior. She tallied a career-high 39 points on 17 goals and five assists, turning in four multiple-goal efforts. The forward from Auckland, New Zealand led the Blue Devils with six game-winning tallies and ranked third in the ACC with 0.81 goals per game. Tynan was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice this season and received second team All-ACC accolades.

An integral member of Duke’s back line over the past four seasons, Furey was a first-time selection to the All-South Region teams. As the Blue Devils’ field captain, she guided the squad to a 17-4 record and the program’s fourth consecutive appearance in the NCAA quarterfinals. Furey started all 21 contests in the backfield, anchoring a unit that posted seven shutouts, three of which came against ranked opponents. She also notched an assist Oct. 15 in a 2-0 shutout of Miami and joined Chillano at the NFHCA Division I Senior Game.

The Longstreth/NFHCA Division I Regional Players of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, with the All-America squad coming out on Dec. 5 and the National Player of the Year on Dec. 14.
