After joining the Duke coaching staff as an assistant coach for the 2008-09 season, former Blue Devil standout Caitlin Williams enters her third year with the Duke program.

Williams has helped the Blue Devils post a combined 25-15 record in her two years along with a trip to the Elite Eight during the 2008 season. A goalkeeper during her playing days with the Blue Devils, Williams works primarily with the goalkeepers and the defensive unit.

In her first year on the coaching staff, Williams mentored a defensive unit that posted the third-most shutouts and the third-lowest goals against average in the ACC as the Blue Devils finished 16-5 and advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. The Blue Devils surrendered more than two goals just three times all season and posted two shutouts against ranked teams.

Williams was also charged with bringing along goalkeeper Samantha Nelson, who prior to 2008 had never played in a game. In two full seasons under Williams, however, Nelson boasts a 20-15 career record and a goals against average of 2.00.

As Duke’s starting goalkeeper for the 2006 and 2007 seasons, Williams secured an ACC-leading 121 saves her senior year to go along with a save percentage of .738. The Greenland, N.H., native closed her career with 238 saves, a mark which ties for fifth on the Duke career charts, and had 15 shutouts to her credit over the course of her tenure on the field.

Williams received second team All-America honors in 2007 in addition to her first All-ACC nod and her second straight All-South Region honor. She also excelled academically, as a member of the NFHCA National Academic Squad in 2004 and a member of the ACC All-Academic Team in her final two campaigns.

In addition to her coaching responsibilities at Duke, Williams serves as the Region 8 Coaching Director for the National FUTURES Development program.
