DURHAM, N.C. – Seven Blue Devils have been selected for All-ACC Academic honors for the 2018 campaign, as released by the conference office Friday. Junior midfielder Margaux Paolino and redshirt junior goalkeeper Sammi Steele headlined the group with their third career All-Academic accolades, respectively.

Paolino and Steele were two of five student-athletes to be named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the third time in their careers. Senior forwards Caroline Andretta and Rose Tynan earned spots on the squad for the second consecutive season while senior midfielder Morgan Bitting, senior forward Erin Scherrer and junior back Jillian Wolgemuth were first-time All-ACC Academic selections.

Paolino and Tynan were two of the league’s 10 players on the All-ACC Academic Team to also receive All-America recognition in 2018. Both Blue Devils, along with Scherrer, Steele and Wolgemuth, were among the 18 players on the All-ACC Academic Team who were voted All-ACC this fall.

All seven ACC field hockey programs were represented on the 2018 All-ACC Academic Team, with Boston College’s Frederique Haverhals taking home ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.

Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.

The Blue Devil program has totaled 90 All-ACC Academic Team selections since the award’s inception in 2007 and 63 selections since head coach Pam Bustin arrived at Duke in 2011. At least six Duke field hockey student-athletes have been named to the academic squad in each of the previous 11 seasons.

The Blue Devils earned their 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in 2018, reaching the quarterfinal round. Duke rounded out the season at 16-6 and ranked third in the final Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll.
