Blue Devils Upset 10th-Ranked Michigan In Rowing Action

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Duke rowing team upset 10th-ranked Michigan in the women’s varsity fours Saturday afternoon at Griggs Reservoir as part of the ACC-Big 10 Challenge.

Duke’s first varsity fours squad of Virginia Kane, Kate Kearney, Emily Herrington and Liz Martin bested the Wolverines by more than seven seconds as the group finished the 2,000 meter course in 7:28.4, compared to a 7:35.7 mark turned in by Michigan.

The group went on to compete against ninth-ranked Ohio State’s varsity fours squad at the four-team meet, but could not match the Buckeyes’ time of 7:23.2.

The Blue Devils also gave Michigan a run in the first varsity eights, trailing the Wolverines by just over 10 seconds in the event. Full Duke results from the ACC-Big 10 Challenge are below.

Duke will now prepare for the ACC Championships, which will take place on April 19 in Clemson, S.C.
