DURHAM, N.C. – Rising Blue Devil senior Isabella Paez qualified to compete at the 17th FINA World Aquatic Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Paez will take to the pool as the swimming events get underway this weekend.
Paez will represent Venezuela in the 100-meter butterfly Sunday, July 23 and in the 200 butterfly Wednesday, July 26. All swimming events will be held at Danube Arena in Budapest.
Paez previously competed for Venezuela at the 2015 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Kazan, Russa, where she swam in the 100 butterfly preliminaries. She qualified for that meet after winning the 100 butterfly consolation final and placing sixth in the 200 butterfly at the 2015 Pan American Games.
A two-time NCAA qualifier at Duke, Paez was 11th in the 200-yard butterfly and 18th in the 100 butterfly at the 2017 ACC Championships. She is currently the Blue Devils’ program record holder in the 200 butterfly (1:56.04) and ranks seventh all-time at Duke at the 100-yard distance (53.41).
