BUDAPEST, Hungary – Duke University rising senior Isabella Paez turned in a pair of top-30 finishes in the preliminaries of the 100 and 200-meter butterfly events this week at the 2017 FINA World Aquatic Championships in Budapest.

Representing Venezuela at her second FINA World Aquatic Championships, Paez took to the pool at Danube Arena on Sunday in the 100 butterfly preliminaries. She took 30th overall with a 1:00.90 clocking.

Paez then earned a second top-30 showing Wednesday in the 200 butterfly preliminaries, touching at 2:14.98 for 29th.

A native of Medley, Fla., Paez was one of three athletes with Duke ties competing in Budapest. Former Blue Devil standout Ashley Twichell captured gold in the women’s open water five-kilometer event and took silver as a member of the United States’ 5K team relay. With the two medals in Budapest, the 2011 Duke graduate became the first American athlete with four career FINA World Championships open water medals. Recent Blue Devil graduate Jaimee Gundry represented South Africa in the preliminaries of the women’s 10-meter platform diving event, placing 35th.
