GREENSBORO, N.C. – Sophomore Nathaniel Hernandez was in action at the 2017 USA Diving Winter National Championships Wednesday, competing in the men’s one-meter springboard event.

Hernandez totaled 291.40 points in the preliminary/quarterfinal round to come in 10th overall. His highest-scoring dive of the day was in the fifth round, when he earned an award of 54.00 on a reverse 2.5 somersault for a 3.0 degree of difficulty.

A native of Southlake, Texas, Hernandez has posted Duke’s best score of the season to date on the platform, totaling 355.70 points at the Tennessee Invitational. He has surpassed NCAA Zones qualification this season on all three disciplines, and was an NCAA qualifier last season, representing Duke in the platform competition at NCAAs.

Hernandez and the Blue Devils return to the pool Jan. 12, 2018 in a dual meet at Queens University of Charlotte.
