DURHAM, N.C. – Senior MaryEllen Targonski was named the 2018 ACC Women's Diver of the Year Thursday following a season that culminated in the second honorable mention All-America honor of her career.

Targonski became the second Blue Devil in women’s program history to receive the accolade after Abby Johnston did so in 2010 and 2011.

Two weeks ago at the NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, Targonski helped the Duke women tie for 42nd in the final team standings for the program’s highest finish at the national meet since 2011. She reached the platform consolation final for the second consecutive season at NCAAs, placing eighth in the round and 16th overall with an award of 213.95.

With her performance, Targonski joined Johnston as the only repeat All-American divers in women’s program history.

Targonski recorded a career-best finish in the platform competition at this year’s ACC Championships, placing second in the event final (250.05) for the second All-ACC honor of her career. She was also 16th for the Blue Devils in the one-meter springboard event at ACCs.

The Gastonia, N.C., native wrapped up her collegiate career ranked second all-time at Duke on the platform (286.85), fifth on the one-meter (293.24) and sixth on the three-meter board (315.90).
