INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Four Blue Devil swimmers took to the water on the second day of the 2017 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at IU Natatorium.

Duke kicked off action Thursday morning in the preliminaries of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Sophomore Maddie Hess, freshman Alyssa Marsh, senior Maddie Rusch and junior Leah Goldman notched a time of 1:29.13 to place 18th in the field. The performance marked a three-spot improvement from the relay’s showing at last year’s NCAA meet.

Goldman was back in the pool a short while later for the 200 individual medley preliminaries. She raced to the wall in 1:59.74 to tie for 47th overall.

Marsh followed in the 50 freestyle preliminaries, clocking 22.70 for 48th in the field.

Both Goldman and Marsh will be back in action Friday in the 100 butterfly, and Duke will also see its 200 medley relay compete. Sophomore Mackenzie Willborn is also slated to compete in the three-meter springboard diving event on day three in Indianapolis. Swimming preliminaries beginning at 10 a.m., diving at 12:30 p.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Video coverage will be available on in the morning and ESPN3 in the evening.
