DURHAM, N.C.—For the second consecutive week a Blue Devil was named the ACC Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week as goaltender Turner Uppgren garnered the honor for the second time this season. Uppgren and the Blue Devils bested No. 4 Virginia 12-7 Saturday afternoon.

Making his final regular season start at Koskinen for 2019, Uppgren turned in a solid performance between the pipes with 12 saves, a caused turnover and four ground balls in the 12-7 triumph. The Stillwater, Minn., native was outstanding in the first half, making nine saves to keep Virginia from building anything more than a one-goal lead and sent Duke tied 5-5 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the combination of Uppgren, the defense and long possessions on offense held the Cavaliers to just two goals and 10 shots and allowed Duke to pull away for the five-goal win. Overall, Uppgren’s .631 save percentage in the game is the best this season for the first-year starter.

Uppgren sports an 8.97 goals against average on the year, ranking fifth nationally, while his save percentage stands at .514.

Duke, ranked third in this week’s coaches’ poll, closes its regular season slate Saturday, April 20 against Marquette in Bethpage, N.Y. Faceoff for the Battle at Bethpage is set for 11 a.m., at Bethpage High School.
