DURHAM, N.C. – Duke signee Chad Knight has been selected as the 2019 Gatorade Connecticut Baseball Player of the Year, announced this week. The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
Hailing from Westport, Conn., Knight is a four-year letterwinner at Staples High School, and has served as the co-captain of his varsity squad for the past two seasons. The future Blue Devil batted .554 with 10 home runs, 23 RBI and a slugging percentage of 1.179 on his way to leading the Wreckers to the FCIAC championship to cap off his senior season.
Knight was named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Class LL Division All-State first team in 2019 for the third consecutive season. He was also tabbed as the FCIAC Player of the Year to close out his final prep campaign, marking his third straight year receiving the honor.
A two-time Gametime Connecticut All-State Team honoree, Knight was selected to the USA Today All-Connecticut Second Team after receiving first team honors from USA Today as a sophomore. He was also tabbed to the Connecticut High School Coaches Association Class LL Division All-State first team both his sophomore and junior seasons.
A Perfect Game Underclass All-American High Honorable Mention Selection, Knight is rated as PG’s No. 318 overall prospect and the No. 33 catcher in the 2019 recruiting class. In addition, the organization also lists him as the No. 2 overall prospect and the top-rated catcher in the state of Connecticut. Knight is part of Duke’s 12-member 2019 recruiting class.
