DURHAM, N.C.—GoDuke takes a look at the Duke women’s golf alumnae currently competing in the professional ranks. The trio of Brittany Lang, Laetitia Beck and Lindy Duncan are all having solid seasons on the LPGA Tour as the U.S. Open approaches.
Brittany Lang 2004 & 2005 Duke All-America 2004 National Freshman of the Year
Brittany Lang is coming off of a spectacular year. Competing in 29 events in 2015, Lang made 21 cuts and earned a career-high $616,097. She participated on her fourth U.S. Solheim Cup Team and finished as the runner-up at the Manulife LPGA Classic. She has carried that momentum into the 2016 season, her 12th on the tour.
Lang has posted a scoring average of 71.08, while recording 183 subpar holes and 14 rounds in the 60’s. Through 14 events this year, Lang has posted four top 10 finishes: ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer (6/3/16, Tied at 6th), Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic (5/5/16, Tied at 10th), Kia Classic (3/24/16, Tied at 10th), and JTBC Founders Cup (3/17/16, Tied at 9th). She ranks 33rd on the LPGA money list in 2016 with $230, 241 earnings. Lang is poised to qualify for her fifth U.S. Solheim Cup, as she is currently in fifth place for points.
Laetitia Beck Duke (2011-14) 2013 & 2014 All-America
Laetitia Beck is in her second season on the LPGA. In her 13 events this year, she has posted 104 subpar holes, 11 rounds under par, and five rounds in the 60’s. Her scoring average stands at 72.69. Her five eagles this season are the sixth most posted by anyone on the tour. Beck posted her top career finish this season at the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic (5/5/16), finishing tied for 15th. In the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic, Beck opened with a seven-under, 65, and led the field. Beck also opened the Kingsmill Championship with rounds of 67, 72 and 66, before closing with a 73 to finish tied 18th. She is 95th on the LPGA money list with $55,216.
Lindy Duncan Duke (2010-13) 2011-12 National Player of the Year
Former WGCA Player of the Year Lindy Duncan is playing her third year of professional golf and first on the LPGA Tour. She has appeared in 11 events, posting a scoring average of 71.77. Duncan has notched 128 subpar holes and 17 rounds under par. Her top finish of the season came at the LPGA Volvik Championship (5/26/16), where she finished tied for 11th. Duncan is currently 77th on the LPGA money list with $89,275 earnings.
Jean Bartholomew Duke (1986-89)
In her 21st year playing on the LPGA Tour, Jean Bartholomew has only appeared in two events this year. She competed in two rounds of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (6/9/16) and the Shoprite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer (6/3/16). In total, she posted 11 birdies and has a scoring average of 80.75.
Yu Liu Duke (2013-14) 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year 2014 Second Team All-America
Yu Liu is in her second season on the Symetra Tour. She has played in seven events with a scoring average at 72.78. She has registered 70 subpar holes and six rounds under par. Liu collected her first top-10 on the tour at the Fuccillo Kia Championship at Capital Hills (6/3/16), where she tied for ninth. She currently ranks 39th on the Symetra Tour money list with $11,155.
Candy Hannemann Duke (1999-2002) 2001 NCAA Individual Champion
Candy Hannemann is in her second year on the Symetra Tour since returning from retirement as she tries to earn a spot in the Rio Olympics. She has played six tournaments on the tour, averaging a score of 76.06. She has posted two rounds under par and 30 subpar holes. Her top finish this season came at the Symetra Classic (5/12/16), where she finished tied for 38th. Hannemann also played in the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June and turned in rounds of 74 and 78, before missing the cut.
Alejandra Cangrejo Duke (2011-14) 2012-13 Honorable Mention All-America
Alejandra Cangrejo has played in five events in her second season on the Symetra Tour. She holds a scoring average at 77.73 and has recorded 16 subpar holes. Cangrejo had her top finish this year at the IOA Championship Presented by Morongo Casino Resort & Spa on February 19th, where she finished tied for 55th.
Jennie Lee Duke (2006-09) Three-time All-America
Jennie Lee is in her eighth professional season. She has competed in eight events this year and has a scoring average at 74.84. She has recorded 44 subpar holes, three rounds under par, and two rounds in the 60’s. Her top finish this season came at the W. B. Mason Championship at Thorny Lea (5/27/16), where she tied for 25th.
