DURHAM, N.C. - Duke senior managers Sarah Helfer and Pat Thompson are among the four finalists for the National Manager of the Year award sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the UPS Store. As finalists for the awards, the Blue Devil tandem earned $5,000 for Duke general scholarship fund. The winning team/person will claim a $10,000 scholarship prize for his or her school's general scholarship fund.
Helfer, a native of Raleigh, N.C., is an English major with interests in entrepreneurship and non-profit work. She was a state champion track runner and turned down collegiate running offers to pursue a degree at her dream school, Duke. Thompson, a native of Hamilton, N.J., is a Public Policy Studies major with interests in government and international policy. He is also a Cadet in Duke's Army ROTC program and will commission as a Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army this May. In addition to their manager duties throughout the course of the season, Helfer and Thompson have also worked for the K Academy and Duke Men's Basketball camps for the last three years.
