LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Junior Madeline Morgan will represent Duke at the 2011 NCAA Championships after posting a  sixth-place finish Saturday in the women's 6K at the NCAA Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky. Morgan, who earned All-ACC honors two weeks ago at the conference championships, continued her standout season with a top-10 showing in the field of 240 runners.

Morgan notched a personal-best time of 20:28.3 on the 6K course to lead the Blue Devil women to a fifth-place finish out of 35 teams. Senior Suejin Ahn joined Morgan in collecting All-Southeast Region honors with a 24th-place finish in a personal-best 21:02.2.

"Madeline had her best race ever in college cross country or track," said head coach Kevin Jermyn. "She ran smart, she ran tough and she's continued to get better and better with every race. We're really excited for her."

Also scoring for Duke was freshman Julianna Miller, who placed 41st with a season-best time of 21:27.5. Fellow rookie Colleen Schmidt, who earned ACC Performer of the Week honors last week after taking the individual title at the Three Stripe Red Shirt Invitational, clocked a personal-best 21:42.1 to finish 52nd, while senior Esther Vermeer took 55th at 21:45.0.

The Duke women totaled 178 points to finish fifth as a team, moving to 104-23 on the season and 8-10 in the ACC. ACC rival and 21st-ranked Virginia took home the team title with 107 points, while No. 20 NC State finished second at 113 points. Kendra Schaaf guided No. 25 North Carolina to a third-place showing as the top individual finisher with a time of 19:52.9.

In the men's 10K race, senior Andrew Brodeur captured All-Southeast Region honors for the second time in his career while leading Duke to a sixth-place showing. The Brick, N.J., native posted a top-25 finish, taking 22nd in a personal-best time of 30:49.3.

Junior Domenick DeMatteo clocked 31:14.4 to finish 40th in the first 10K race of his collegiate career, while senior Stephen Clark (31:15.5) and sophomore Brian Atkinson (31:16.3) placed 42nd and 43rd, respectively, with Clark turning in a personal-best showing at the 10K distance. Freshman Morgan Pearson rounded out Duke's scorers, turning in a 50th-place performance at 31:28.3.

"We're really pleased with Andrew Brodeur's race," said head coach Norm Ogilvie. "It was his last race at Duke and he held his own."

NC State's Ryan Hill led the 14th-ranked Wolfpack to the Region title, clocking 29:48.8 to lead the field. No. 20 Eastern Kentucky finished second in the team standings with 139 points, while William & Mary took third at 152 points. ACC opponents Virginia Tech and North Carolina rounded out the top five teams overall.

"I thought the guys ran fairly well," said head coach Norm Ogilvie. "It was a pretty close competition. There weren't a whole lot of points spread between the teams."

The Blue Devil men conclude the 2011 season with an overall record of 64-20-1 and 11-10-1 in ACC competition.

Morgan will compete as an individual at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships on Monday, Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind.
