GREENSBORO, N.C. - Adam Sumrall and Austin Cody each posted one-under 71s as Duke fired  a three-over 291, the second-best round of the day, on Friday to move into ninth at the NCAA East Regional at the Grandover Resort East Course. The Blue Devils' 16-over 592 is four shots out of fourth place with the top five teams at the conclusion of tomorrow's final round advancing to the 2012 NCAA Championship.

Liberty holds the 36-hole lead with an even-par 576. SMU is six shots back with Florida (+10, 586), Auburn (+12, 588) and Lamar (+12, 588) rounding out the top five. Texas Tech (+13, 589), Tulsa (+14, 590), Indiana (+15, 591) and Duke (+16, 592) are all within four shots of fourth place with the top five teams advancing to the NCAA Championship.

Matt Schovee (SMU) continues to hold the individual lead at seven-under (137). Liberty's Robert Karlsson is two shots back with Blayne Barber (Auburn) and Vaita Guillaume (Campbell) tied for third at three-under. Sumrall is tied for seventh at even-par.

Sumrall collected his third under-par round of the season with a one-under 71 in the second round. The South Bend, Ind., native birdied the par 3 12th and par 4 14th holes to get to two-under early in his round. Following a bogey on No. 16, Sumrall carded birdies on No. 17 (par 4) and No. 18 (par 5) to make the turn at three-under. He parred the first four holes of the front nine before running into trouble with a double-bogey on the par 4 fifth hole. Sumrall recovered with four straight pars to close the day. He enters tomorrow's final round of play tied for seventh with an even-par 216.

Cody began the second round with three straight pars before suffering bogeys on the par 5 13th and par 4 15th holes to slip to two-over on the round.  After a par on No. 16, Cody went birdie-birdie to make the turn at even-par. On the front side at the Grandover Resort East Course, he ripped off eight pars and a birdie on the par 3 seventh hole for his ninth under-par round of the season. Cody enters tomorrow's final round tied for 33rd with a six-over 150.

Junior Brinson Paolini fired his second straight round of 73 and is now tied for 12th with a two-over 146. He got off to a slow start with bogeys on No. 10 and No. 11 before carding birdies on the par 3 12th and par 4 14th holes to get back to even-par. After a bogey on No. 17, he birdied the par 5 18th hole to make the turn at even-par. The Virginia Beach, Va., native moved into red figures with a birdie on No. 2 (par 5) but suffered bogeys on No. 5 and No. 7 down the straight to finish at one-over.

Junior Julian Suri posted a four-over 76 on Friday while continuing to battle through a nagging wrist injury. He bogeyed the par 4 11th hole and slipped to five-over after double-bogeys on No. 14 and No. 15. Suri carded his first birdie on the par 5 18th hole but gave a stroke back with a bogey on No. 1. He recovered with four straight pars before posting a birdie on the par 5 sixth hole. Suri closed with three straight pars and is now tied for 57th with an 11-over 155.

Spencer Anderson, a senior from California, posted a five-over 77 in the second round and is now tied for 48th with a nine-over 153. He opened with back-to-back bogeys on Friday and closed the day with three birdies, seven pars and eight bogeys. Anderson struggled on the par 5s with bogeys on three of the four par 5s in the second round.

Duke opens final round play on Saturday at 7:30 am. The Blue Devils will be paired with Tulsa and Indiana. Live scoring for the event is available at www.golfstat.com.
