DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University women’s basketball head coach Joanne P. McCallie announced on Thursday the Blue Devils will take rising senior Allison Vernerey home in August as the program will travel to France and Italy Aug. 13-22.

“It’s wonderful to be able to take Allison home and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” said McCallie. “We’re going to France, we’re going to Paris and we’re going to visit her home town. The bottom line is, the motivation is to take Allison home, allow her teammates to see her house. She’s come an awful long way to play for Duke and it’s nice to have a chance to return the favor.”

The Blue Devils will head out on Monday, Aug. 13 to Paris, France, where they will stay for three nights.  On Wednesday, the Blue Devils will play their first of three games against BC Franconville  at Gymnase CSL.  Franconville plays in the NF1 League in France and posted a 10-12 record this past season.

Duke will have a busy day on Friday, Aug. 17 as the team will travel to the Normandy region for a tour of D-Day landing and the Normandy Landing beaches.  Following the tours, the Blue Devils will travel to Deauville, France for a game against Mondeville.  Mondeville plays in the top league in France and notched a 15-11 record last year.

On Saturday, Duke will travel to Mulhouse, France, where Vernerey is from, for two days.  The team will play its third and final game on Sunday against Geispolsheim.  Geispolsheim finished with a 6-16 record in the NF1 League a year ago.

To close out the trip, the Blue Devils will head to Como, Italy for the final two days, before heading home on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

The Blue Devils will feature a roster of 13 student-athletes on the trip to France and Italy.  Duke has 10 returning players and all three incoming freshmen -- Katie Heckman, Alexis Jones and Sierra Moore -- will travel as well.  Duke is coming off posting a 27-6 overall record in 2011-12, advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight and won the ACC regular season title with a 15-1 record.

“With three new freshmen, this trip will give us a chance to bring them on board,” commented McCallie.  “They’ll be travelling with us and the team will have a chance to get to know each other a little better.”

Vernerey, who will be the lone senior on the 2012-13 Blue Devil roster, is from Alsace, France and attended the Mulhouse  school.  She was the captain of the U-16 and U-18 French National Teams.  At Duke, Vernerey has played in 105 games, averaged 6.0 points and 4.0 rebounds.  She was named a Capital One Academic All-District III selection as a junior.

Duke last took a foreign trip in 2001 as the Blue Devils went to Australia.
