DURHAM, N.C. - A total of 14 Duke student-athletes are currently playing in various summer baseball leagues across the country with several Blue Devils putting together solid seasons for their respective teams.
Sophomore RHP Andrew Istler is the only pitcher in the Coastal Plain League with an ERA under 1.00 as he continues to lead the league with a 0.78 ERA. Istler has posted 39 strikeouts in six starts with the Wilson Tobs, and also leads the league in opponent batting average (.120) and earned runs allowed (4) while ranking second in hits allowed (19) and runs allowed (8).
Fellow sophomore RHP Dalton Brown has come on strong as of late, striking seven in his last 7.67 innings of work. The right-hander dropped his ERA to 2.92 after allowing just one earned run in his past three appearances with the Conejo Oaks of the California Baseball League.
Both senior Jeff Kremer and junior David Perkins are hitting over .300 for the season as Kremer leads the Anchorage Glacier Pilots of the Alaska Baseball League with a .326 average while Perkins is third on the Harrisonburg Turks of the Valley Baseball League with a .304 average.
Junior Jordan Betts has cooled off his torrid pace to begin the summer season, but the infielder is still hitting .308 with eight home runs, seven doubles and 24 RBI for the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League.
