DURHAM, N.C. - After capturing the bronze medal with David Boudia in the men's 10-meter synchronized event last week at the London Olympic Games, Duke's Nick McCrory returns to the platform this weekend for the men's individual 10-meter competition.
McCrory will dive 22nd in Friday's preliminary round, followed by his synchro partner and fellow American Boudia in the 25th position. The action gets underway at the London Aquatics Centre at 2 p.m. EST. A total of 32 divers will be vying for the 18 spots available in Saturday's semifinal, slated for 5 a.m. EST, with the top 12 divers from the semifinal moving on to the final, which will be held later on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EST.
Both McCrory and Boudia will look to continue Team USA's success in the Olympic diving events, as Kelci Bryant and Duke's Abby Johnston earned a silver in the women's 3-meter synchronized event and Troy Dumais and Kristian Ipsen added a bronze in the same event on the men's side. Americans Cassidy Krug and Christina Loukas took seventh and eighth, respectively, in the finals of the women's individual 3-meter finals, while Dumais finished fifth in the men's 3-meter final. Two other members of Team USA - Brittany Viola and Katie Bell - reached the semifinals of the women's platform competition Thursday but did not advance to the event finals.
The preliminary, semifinal and final rounds of the men's 10-meter platform event will be broadcast live on NBCOlympics.com, in addition to being re-aired in primetime each night on NBC.
