DURHAM, N.C. - The 19th-ranked Duke field hockey team will continue its homestand this weekend with games against top-ranked North Carolina and 15th-ranked Michigan State.  The Blue Devils will face the Tar Heels on Friday night at 6 p.m., and the Spartans on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.  Both contests will be played at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on Duke's east campus.  Live stats and live video will be available on www.GoDuke.com.    

Duke's Last Time Out
Duke split last weekend with a 2-1 win over No. 25 Richmond and a 3-1 loss to No. 8 Old Dominion.  Against Richmond, redshirt junior Devon Gagliardi and junior Emmie Le Marchand earned goals for the Blue Devils while Mary Nielsen, Grace Christus and Chelsea Amsley were credited with the assist.  In the loss against Old Dominion Le Marchand scored Duke's lone goal off a penalty stroke in the second half.  Goalkeeper Ashley Camano made six saves in the loss.    

Facing No. 1 North Carolina
North Carolina leads the overall series 67-10-1.  The conference rivals last met in the 2011 ACC Championship game where North Carolina earned the victory 2-1.  The Duke goal came from forward Jessica Buttinger off a pass from Devon Gagliardi, goalkeeper Samantha Nelson kept the Tar Heels scoreless through the first half. 

Facing No. 15 Michigan State
Duke leads the overall series with Michigan State 5-3-0.  The two teams last met in the second game of the 2010 season as a part of the Champions Challenge in East Lansing, Mich.  With both teams ranked in the top ten nationally, the Spartans won the game 1-0 even though the Blue Devils dominated in both the shots (16-5) and corners columns (8-2).     

Penalty Corners
Duke currently ranks eighth in the nation and second in the ACC in penalty corners per game with an average of 8.88. 

ACC Competition
All six ACC field hockey teams are ranked in the top 25 in the Penn Monto/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll that was released Tuesday, September 18. North Carolina grabbed the top spot, followed by Maryland at no. 4 and Virginia in the seventh spot, while Wake Forest and Boston College nabbed the 14th and 22nd slots.

Six Travel to Junior Pan Am's
Six Blue Devils are currently in Guadalajara, Mexico representing their respective countries in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games. The Junior World Cup qualifier began on September 10 and will continue until September 23. Sophomores Abby Beltrani and Lauren Blazing along with freshman Aileen Johnson and Hannah Barreca are playing for the United States in the tournament while sophomore Jessica Buttinger and freshman Kendra Perrin are representing Canada. The Blue Devils will play with their full roster as they continue their homestand next weekend against No. 22 Boston College on Friday, September 28, at 6 p.m. (ET).  Then, on Sunday, September 30, they will line up against Kent State at 1 p.m. (ET) on Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium.
