DURHAM, N.C. - The 21st-ranked Duke field hockey team will wrap up its seven-game homestand this weekend with games against conference foe Boston College and Kent State. The Blue Devils will face the Eagles on Friday night at 6 p.m., and the Gold Flashes on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Both contests will be played at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium on Duke's east campus. Duke's Last Time Out Duke split last weekend with a 7-3 loss to North Carolina on Friday and 4-2 win over Michigan State Sunday. In the loss to North Carolina, the Tar Heels jumped out to a 4-0 start in the first half but the Blue Devils bounced back to earned two goals from junior Emmie Le Marchand and one from senior Abby Hassinger to play a more even match in the second half.
In the win over Michigan State senior Mary Nielsen collected two goals while juniors McKay Ross and Le Marchand each contributed a goal, Devon Gagliardi and Martine Chichizola were credited with assists. In the 70 minutes of regulation, the Blue Devils outshot Michigan State 25-6.
Facing Boston College (5-5) Duke leads the series with Boston College 7-6 including a 4-2 victoryon September 30, 2011 in Newton, Mass. In the win, Le Marchand was credited with a goal and two assists while Nielsen, Gagliardi and Ross also found the back of the net.
Facing Kent State (5-7) The Blue Devils are undefeated against the Golden Flashes and look to continue their four game win streak with a victory on Sunday. The teams last faced off in 2006 resulting in a 6-0 Duke victory.
Success at Junior Pan Am's Six Blue Devils traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico to represent their respective countries in the 2012 Junior Pan American Games. The Junior World Cup qualifier began on September 10, lasting until September 23. Sophomores Abby Beltrani and Lauren Blazing along with freshman Aileen Johnson and Hannah Barreca were members of the bronze medal United States team while sophomore Jessica Buttinger and freshman Kendra Perrin competed for Canada to earn a silver medal. Both accomplished their ultimate goals of qualifying for the 2013 Jr. World Cup.
