DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 21 Blue Devils fell to Boston College by a score of 2-1 on a rain soaked Friday night at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Despite outshooting the Eagles by a margin of 15-8, junior Brenna Rescigno was the only Blue Devil to find the back of the net to earn her third goal of the 2012 season.
Boston College was the first to get on the board with a goal from sophomore Hannah Nedeau off an assist by Virgynia Muma.
Duke evened the score 1-1 at the end of the first half with a blast from the top of the circle taken by junior Brenna Rescigno off a penalty corner. Inserter Chelsea Amsley and stopper Paula Heimbach were both credited with the assists.
After an hour delay due to weather, the Eagles came out in the second half as the aggressor and scored a goal just minutes into the half when AshLeigh Sebia buried a shot into the right side of the net off a penalty corner.
With 28 minutes remaining in the second half, the game was again delayed due to weather, and resumed to see the Blue Devils earn two penalty corners in a row. Despite a number of good opportunities, the Blue Devils were unable to score the equalizer.
On the game, the Blue Devils had more penalty corners by a 9-4 margin, and outshot the Eagles 15-8.
Sophomore Lauren Blazing ended the game with 3 saves, and currently has 23 on the season.
The Blue Devils will return to action Sunday, September 30, against Kent State at Williams Field at Jack Katz Stadium. Game time is set for 1 p.m. Live stats and live video will be available on www.GoDuke.com.
